Chromebook 1:1 for the 2015-2016 School Year

Image of chromebook
At the June 23rd Board of Education meeting, the school board approved a purchase of chromebooks that will allow students in grade 1-8 to have a chromebook assigned for their use. The district is very excited about the opportunities a dedicated device presents for students. Much of the district’s current curriculum has digital component with student books and resources all online.

Chromebooks for grades 1-5 will remain in the students’ homerooms overnight. For grades 6-8, the chromebooks will go home with students provided families purchase the district’s Chromebook Protection Plan and attend a mandatory meeting. Middle school families should watch for communications from RTMS about the details of the protection plan and dates of the mandatory meeting.

Technology - 2014-2015 School Year

The District is continuing to pursue a goal of a device for every student. During the 2014-2015 school year Grades 3-5 will have one device per student. At RTMS all students in Social Studies classes
and almost all of the students in ELA classes will have the use of a device during class. The district is also piloting the use of tablets. One second grade class at Euclid will be using Nexus 7 tablets and one first grade class at Indian Grove will be using iPad minis.

Illinois School Technology Revolving Loan Program
River Trails School District received an Illinois School Technology Revolving Loan this year. The loan funds were used to upgrade the district wireless infrastructure and to purchase additional Chromebooks for student use.

Technology - 2013-2014 School Year
Over 300 new Samsung Chromebooks were purchased. These have been distributed to several classrooms. For those that haven't heard of Chromebooks, these are relatively inexpensive devices that start up very quickly and can access almost any resource on the Internet. River Trails uses Google Apps for Education and a Chromebook in the hands of a student provides quick and easy access to this wonderful (and free) resource.
