We are excited to start the 16-17 school year with new science standards for grades K-8 called the Next Generation Science Standards (http://www.nextgenscience.org/). River Trails Middle School science teachers have been making changes and aligning curriculum to the new standards.  Teachers in grades K-5 will begin teaching from a new science program called STEMScopes (http://www.acceleratelearning.com/).  STEMscopes is a new hands-on science program designed to engage students in problem-based learning while exploring earth, physical and life sciences.  Students will work in small teams throughout the school year on different science topics using technology, paper-based resources and science lab materials.  Teachers will work to guide children along a journey of learning the scientific process and understanding that in some cases, science involves multiple attempts at finding an answer or, maybe even, a single answer doesn't even exist. It will be very exciting to see how students working in these new standards and activities.
